As the worldwide industry leader in automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems, PIPS Technology develops and manufactures a broad range of products for the next generation of ALPR technology from its headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee. PIPS specializes in equipment for law enforcement, tolling, traffic monitoring, intelligent transportation systems, and access control.
Applications for ALPR include, but are not limited to, border security, wants/warrants/BOLO, AMBER Alerts, detection for stolen vehicles, and urban surveillance. PIPS has performed more than 11,000 installations of ALPR systems worldwide.
PIPS holds patents such as “platefinder” technology—which identifies license plates based on reflective properties and physical size—and “triple flash”—which allows the camera to adjust flash, shutter, and gain settings to capture multiple images per vehicle to ensure a quality image over a wide range of ambient and environmental conditions. The ALPR cameras can be used in fixed locations or attached to mobile units, such as patrol cars.
